Iran, Azerbaijan hold 12th Joint Economic Commission

Tuesday, Mar 13, 2018

The 12th Joint Economic Commission of Iran and Azerbaijan was held at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance of Iran this morning.

(SHADA: TEHRAN) -- On the sidelines of the commission, Masoud Karbasian told reporters that the final results of the commission will be formally announced tomorrow (Wednesday) and described the talks as positive.

Pointing to the completion of the Rasht-Astara Railway project, the Minister said that the project is almost complete and only some of the remaining installations are being built.

He also pointed to the completion of the remaining parts of the Qazvin-Rasht Railway, saying: Fortunately, with the completion of this railway in the very near future, we will have full access to the North Caucasus and from there to the countries of Central Asia.

Expressing that the Rasht-Astara railway is a transnational project and very important to the countries of the region, Karbasian added: For this reason, many countries are willing to participate in this project.

Referring to his talks with Russian officials during the Joint Commission of the two countries in recent days, the Minister of Economy said: The Russians announced that they transported a shipment of Indian cargo from the Persian Gulf to their country, which reduced the 40-day delivery time to 20 days.

Given the volume of $70 billion in trade between Russia and India, this alone is a very valuable opportunity for both Iran and Azerbaijan, he added.

In the area of banking issues, good negotiations have been made between the two countries, and we hope that the results will be finalized in the coming days, Karbasian noted.

He further pointed to the opening of the Iran Khodro car factory in Nakhijevan, added: Fortunately, negotiations in other fields such as agricultural machinery, overseas cultivation, health, pharmacy, etc. are also in progress and will have good results.

According to the report, Shahin Mustafayev, the Azerbaijani Minister of Economy, said that Iran-Azerbaijan relations are successful and developing, adding: With the political will of the presidents of both countries, the level of mutual cooperation between the two countries has been on the rise during the past four years.
