Hossein Forouzan made the remarks during a visit to the Rimdan border crossing, where the “My Rimdan” digital platform was also introduced. He described Rimdan as one of Iran’s important border crossings and stressed the need to streamline truck movements and expand logistics infrastructure, import and export terminals, and essential transport services to enable the crossing to play a more effective role in regional trade.
Forouzan said reducing waiting times for trucks at the border would have a direct impact on lowering trade costs. The shorter the time vehicles spend waiting at the crossing, he noted, the lower the costs associated with imports and exports.
He also stressed that adequate facilities for truck drivers—including designated areas for parking, rest and access to essential services—should be regarded as an integral component of modern cross-border trade infrastructure.
The official called for greater participation by the private sector in developing logistics infrastructure, saying conditions should be created to attract investors to establish import and export terminals, service centers and other facilities required by the transport sector.
Such investment, he said, would help accelerate the movement of goods and freight vehicles across the border while improving the overall efficiency of cross-border trade operations.
Referring to the development underway in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, particularly in the area of border-based economic activity, Forouzan said major projects had been launched despite the government’s limited financial resources.
He stressed that sustaining and accelerating the development process would require greater use of private-sector capacity as well as coordinated efforts among relevant government agencies and institutions.
Forouzan also emphasized the importance of ensuring that the economic benefits generated by border activity remain in the local economy.
“Revenues generated in this region should be directed toward local development, infrastructure expansion and the improvement of economic and social conditions,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, Forouzan pointed to Rimdan’s considerable commercial potential and the development projects already underway, saying the border crossing could become one of Iran’s leading gateways for trade.
He added that the country’s free zones organization would draw on its available capacities to support the development of Rimdan, strengthen its infrastructure, and enhance the border crossing’s contribution to economic activity.
