Sarakhs and Dogharoun Have Potential to Become Major Regional Trade Hubs

TEHRAN — Sarakhs and Dogharoun have the potential to emerge as major hubs for regional trade, transit and economic activity due to their strategic locations and proximity to neighboring countries, the secretary of Iran’s High Council of Free Zones and Special Economic Zones said.

Hossein Forouzan made the remarks during a meeting with the governor-general of Razavi Khorasan Province, highlighting the strategic importance of the Sarakhs and Dogharoun economic zones and calling for efforts to remove obstacles hindering their operations.

“For their geographical location and position along major trade routes, Sarakhs and Dogharoun have significant potential to expand economic exchanges with neighboring countries, and these capacities must be utilized effectively,” Forouzan said.

He called on the governor-general's special attention to resolving existing problems in the two zones and to accelerate the implementation of decisions and measures related to their development.

Forouzan said streamlining trade procedures, strengthening infrastructure, addressing operational challenges and improving coordination among agencies in charge could help expand economic and commercial activity in the two areas and enhance Razavi Khorasan’s role in trade with neighboring countries.

During the meeting, Razavi Khorasan Governor-General Gholamhossein Mozafari stressed the need to move away from old methods of managing traffic at the Sarakhs and Dogharoun border crossings.

He said border traffic should be managed through integrated controls and smart systems, with clearly defined routes for vehicles from the start to the end, allowing traffic to move more smoothly and efficiently.

Mozafari emphasized the importance of improving traffic management at the two crossings, saying the use of technology and the establishment of an integrated process could reduce vehicle waiting times, increase efficiency, and facilitate commercial and transit activities along the province’s borders.

He also called for faster action to resolve existing problems at the Sarakhs and Dogharoun crossings and urged agencies in charge to strengthen coordination and cooperation to improve operating conditions and ensure smoother border traffic.
