Iran Calls for Faster Implementation of Islamic Development Bank-Funded Projects

BANGKOK— Iran’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, Seyyed Ali Madanizadeh, has called for faster resolution of outstanding issues affecting Islamic Development Bank-backed projects, the removal of implementation bottlenecks and more effective use of the bank’s financing capacity to complete the country’s priority development initiatives.

Madanizadeh made the remarks during a meeting with Islamic Development Bank President Muhammed Sulaiman Al-Jasser on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Bangkok, according to Iran’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance.

The discussions focused on the implementation of approved projects and ways to strengthen financial and development cooperation between Iran and the multilateral lender.

Key priorities included resolving obstacles delaying projects, particularly in environmental protection, urban wastewater management and educational infrastructure. The two sides also examined the possible extension of financing validity periods and the reapproval of certain priority projects that have already undergone assessment.

Madanizadeh and Al Jasser further stressed the need to make effective use of the remaining financing allocated to ongoing projects to ensure their completion.

The agenda also included banking coordination, settling outstanding installment payments, and measures to facilitate the repayment of financial obligations. Addressing these issues, the ministry said, could help prevent disruptions to project implementation and sustain bilateral development cooperation.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on continued technical consultations, removing existing obstacles, and focusing more strongly on completing unfinished projects to make better use of the Islamic Development Bank’s financing capacity.
