Economy Minister: Iran's Customs Breaks Historic Record in Clearing Essential Goods

Iran’s Minister of Economy says concerns over the country’s stock of essential goods are unfounded, noting that strategic reserves are in “excellent condition.” Seyed Ali Madanizadeh announced that imports have proceeded smoothly and that Iranian customs recorded historic highs in the clearance of essential goods over the past week, with distribution networks operating normally.

Speaking in a televised interview, Madanizadeh said recent currency policy reforms were designed to support Iranian producers and exporters, adding that the results will become evident in the coming months.

Addressing criticism over the lack of public consultation before implementing the reforms, the minister explained that building consensus is a time‑consuming process and that unexpected circumstances forced the government to implement the plan earlier than scheduled time , leaving limited time for public outreach.

He rejected claims that the timing of the policy was linked to recent riots, calling such accusations unfair and stressing that the reforms had long been part of the government’s core agenda.

Madanizadeh also confirmed that minor delays in imports and distribution over the past two weeks were caused by administrative bottlenecks, which were resolved quickly after intervention by the government’s operations unit.
