During the visit on Thursday, Madanizadeh talked with passengers and drivers to hear their concerns and assess the terminal’s operational capacity, service shortcomings, and infrastructure needs.
According to Shada, the official news outlet of Iran’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance, the visit was attended by the governor-general of West Azerbaijan Province and Urmia’s representatives in the Iranian Parliament, Shaheen Jahangiri and Seyyed Salman Zaker, who briefed the minister on the terminal’s facilities, potential and recent operational challenges.
Madanizadeh called for the provision of public transport services at the terminal to improve convenience for Iranian passengers. He said he was visiting the facility as a representative of the government and pledged to convey the concerns raised by passengers, drivers and provincial officials to the government and pursue their resolution.
Among the key demands raised during the visit were the allocation of national budget funds to accelerate the reorganization and upgrading of the Sarv border terminal, as well as the repair, revitalization and roofing of its border market.
Provincial officials and local stakeholders also called for consultations with their Turkish counterparts to increase the number of passenger-processing gates available to Iranian travelers and businesspeople. Expanding gate capacity could help ease congestion and improve the movement of people and traders across the border.
Located near Urmia in West Azerbaijan Province, the Sarv terminal is one of Iran’s border crossings with Türkiye and serves both passenger traffic and commercial exchanges between the two countries. Operating around the clock, the terminal is equipped with X-ray screening systems and plays a role in facilitating cross-border transportation and trade.
The visit formed part of Madanizadeh’s one-day trip to West Azerbaijan Province, during which he reviewed border infrastructure and heard local officials’ and stakeholders’ proposals for improving services and strengthening the region’s cross-border economic links.
