Tajikistan Int'l Investment Forum Held with Participation of Iranian Delegation

The Tajikistan International Investment Forum is being held with the participation of an Iranian delegation led by the Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, creating new opportunities to expand economic relations between the two countries.

The forum, titled “Green Investment: Today’s Opportunity for Tomorrow’s Sustainability”, is taking place from October 14 to 16 in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. The Iranian delegation, headed by Dr. Seyed Ali Madanizadeh, is attending the event, and the Iranian Minister of Economy is scheduled to deliver a speech at the opening ceremony.

Supported by the Government of Tajikistan and organized in collaboration with the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management and the Executive Authority of Dushanbe, the forum aims to showcase Tajikistan’s investment potential in areas such as green economy, digitalization, and accelerated industrialization.
Key objectives of the forum include attracting foreign direct investment, developing the digital economy, sharing experiences in modern investment models such as ESG, supporting rapid industrialization, and identifying long-term partners.
The Iranian delegation, comprising representatives from both the public and private sectors, is participating based on the visit of Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian to Dushanbe in January of the previous year. During that visit, 23 memorandums of understanding were signed in fields such as trade, energy, technology, agriculture, mining, digitalization, rail transport, and counterterrorism. Agreements were also reached on industrial and technological development plans for 2025–2027, expanding freight transit through Chabahar Port, and cooperation in genetic engineering and biotechnology.
Iran–Tajikistan relations, historically rooted in deep cultural ties, have now expanded into economic dimensions. Notably, visa requirements were lifted in February of last year, and over 200 general agreements have been signed between the two nations.Bilateral trade has seen remarkable growth, rising from $57 million in 2019 to over $377 million in 2024, including $114.5 million in Tajik exports to Iran and $263.2 million in imports from Iran. Both countries are pursuing a target of $1 billion in trade volume.Currently, more than 160 Iranian-funded companies are active in Tajikistan, and the volume of transported goods and services in 2024 has increased 3.2 times compared to two years ago. Key sectors of cooperation include agriculture, energy, technology, and mineral resources. The Iranian delegation’s presence at the forum represents a significant opportunity to advance shared goals and boost economic ties, particularly in green and digital economies, which hold strong potential for collaboration.
Tajikistan’s economy, with an 8.4% GDP growth in 2024 (reaching $14.2 billion) and a projected 6.7% growth in 2025, offers substantial potential in agriculture, hydropower, mineral resources, and tourism. The country’s National Development Strategy 2016–2030 focuses on structural reforms, improving the investment climate, and expanding digital connectivity. For Iran, this forum serves as a strategic gateway to access Central Asian and Eurasian markets, with Tajikistan playing a pivotal role as a regional hub.
