Iran, Tajikistan Deepen Economic Ties Through Joint Fund, Engineering Cooperation

During a bilateral meeting in Dushanbe, Iran’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, Dr. Seyed Ali Madanizadeh, and Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, outlined a roadmap for expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.

This meeting took place during Madanizadeh's visit to the Dushanbe International Investment Forum, which is being held in the capital city of Tajikistan.

Central to the discussions were the establishment of a joint development fund, the export of Iranian engineering services in power plant construction, dam building, urban development, and housing, as well as the creation of a bilateral mechanism for resolving commercial disputes.

Madanizadeh emphasized that recent high-level meetings between Iranian and Tajik leaders have opened new avenues for cooperation, citing shared cultural heritage and geographic proximity as key enablers. He noted that Iran’s foreign policy prioritizes stronger ties with neighboring states, with Tajikistan identified as a strategic partner. A recent presidential visit resulted in the signing of 13 cooperation agreements worth over $450 million.

The proposed joint fund, backed by Iran’s National Development Fund, aims to finance and de-risk regional investment projects, positioning Iranian capital for broader engagement across Central Asia. The fund is also expected to provide credit lines to Iranian firms offering technical services in infrastructure sectors.

According to Madanizadeh, bilateral trade volume has increased by 50% in recent months compared to the same period last year. He called for further expansion in economic, commercial, and cultural domains, stressing the importance of harmonized standards, reduced customs tariffs, and institutional support for private sector engagement. A joint representative will be appointed to address banking challenges.

Visa liberalization was identified as a key driver for boosting travel and trade, with health tourism and expanded flight routes highlighted as additional areas for cooperation. Tajikistan’s minister welcomed Iran’s proposals and expressed full readiness to collaborate on banking, aviation, joint financing, and engineering services. He concluded by calling Iran’s progress a source of pride for the Tajik people.
