Iran, Tajikistan Stress Expansion of Economic and Energy Cooperation at SCO Development Bank Summit

The head of Iran’s Investment Organization met with Tajikistan’s Minister of Finance on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Development Bank Summit, where the two sides explored ways to strengthen bilateral economic relations, emphasizing the removal of banking barriers and the expansion of cooperation in key sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, and energy.

According to SHADA, on the sidelines of the Third Consultative Summit of the SCO Development Bank, held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Mahdi Haidari, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance and President of the Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran, met with Faiziddin Qahhorzoda, Tajikistan’s Minister of Finance.

During the meeting, Qahhorzoda highlighted the presence of approximately 160 Iranian companies operating in Tajikistan and announced their participation in the construction of a major hydropower project. He noted that Iranian engineers are playing an active role in implementing development projects through international tenders. Referring to the cooperation agreement signed during President Masoud Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Tajikistan, he expressed optimism that the remaining issues affecting bilateral cooperation would be resolved in the near future.

For his part, Haidari thanked Tajikistan for its support during the recent conflict and underscored the importance of expanding sustainable international cooperation with Iran. He also extended an invitation to the Tajik finance minister to visit Iran.

The Iranian deputy minister further reported on ongoing efforts to address challenges facing Iranian companies operating in Tajikistan and called for the resolution of issues affecting Iranian banks. In response, Qahhorzoda announced that he had contacted the President of the Islamic Development Bank regarding the financial challenges of an Iranian company.

The Tajik minister also praised Iran’s resilience during the recent conflict, emphasizing the country’s ability to confront multiple adversaries simultaneously, and called for a swift end to the hostilities.

The two officials also discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in agriculture, banking, healthcare, and hydropower generation. They agreed to continue pursuing the issues raised during the meeting through ongoing written correspondence and follow-up consultations.
