Import Volume at IKA Customs Tops $3 Billion in First Four Months

More than $3 billion worth of goods have been cleared through Imam Khomeini Airport (IKA) Customs in the first four months of the current Iranian year, according to Gholam Hossein Nouhi, Director General of IKA Customs.

Speaking to Shada, Nouhi reported that over 13,800 tonnes of goods were processed during this period. Of the total, approximately $696 million comprised essential commodities, underscoring the airport’s strategic role in facilitating the import of basic goods.
On the export front, Nouhi stated that outbound shipments from IKA Customs reached a value of $73 million. The leading export items included pharmaceuticals and saffron, reflecting Iran’s growing footprint in high-value and specialty goods.
Customs revenue for the period amounted to 95.278 trillion rials, marking a 43% increase compared to the same timeframe last year. Nouhi attributed the rise to improved operational efficiency and increased trade volume.
Addressing passenger traffic, Nouhi noted that nearly 2 million travelers—specifically 1,997,326—passed through the airport’s customs checkpoint. He emphasized that customs formalities for trade goods carried in passenger baggage were conducted with minimal disruption and discreet oversight, ensuring swift processing and an enhanced traveler experience.
