Iran and Türkiye Strengthen Customs Collaboration with New Agreement

According to Shada, the agreement was signed by Foroud Asgari, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance and Director General of the Customs Administration of Iran (IRICA), alongside Sezai Uçarmak, Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Trade and Director of the Customs Administration.

During the signing ceremony—attended by senior customs officials from both countries—Asgari stressed that the current trade volume does not fully reflect the technical capacities or political commitment of either nation. He underscored the vast potential for growth, describing higher trade turnover as both necessary and achievable.

“Iran’s customs authorities are committed to surpassing historical trade figures and advancing bilateral commerce strategically,” Asgari remarked. He further highlighted the significance of Bazargan customs as a key hub that could soon set a national benchmark for customs infrastructure.

Uçarmak echoed this sentiment, reaffirming that expanding the trade volume between Iran and Türkiye remains a priority. Discussions also addressed operational challenges, including the need to increase the number of cargo trucks at border crossings to facilitate smoother trade flows.

Recent data from the Iranian Customs Administration illustrates the trade activity between the two nations. In the first month of the current Iranian year, Iran exported 217,000 tons of goods to Türkiye, valued at $189 million, while imports from Türkiye totaled 337,000 tons, amounting to approximately $538 million.
