Iran Outlines Its Investment Plans in Tajikistan

According to Shada, Dr. Abdolnaser Hemmati, who traveled to Tajikistan with the President, stated that trade between Iran and Tajikistan has increased by 50 percent compared to the previous year, reaching $380 million. However, he noted that this figure remains unacceptable given the potential of both nations.

Cultural and Historical Ties

The Iranian minister emphasized the shared language, culture, and history between the two countries, highlighting the potential for deeper relations.

He pointed out the opportunities for large joint projects across Tajikistan, stating: "The abolition of visas between our two countries and increased travel can significantly enhance trade and investment relations."

Tourism as an Economic Driver

The Minister of Economy stressed that strengthening tourism is essential for economic activities. He also announced new opportunities for implementing contracting projects, adding: "Utilizing the capacity of the OPEC Fund is available for this purpose, which should be requested by Tajik economic activists so that the Iranian side, as the project implementer, can benefit from this capacity."

Tajik President's Invitation for Investment

During the forum, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon highlighted sectors such as tourism and hydropower as key areas for boosting bilateral trade. He specifically invited Iranian investments in hydropower, according to an official statement from his office.

“The utilization of Tajikistan's hydropower potential will benefit not only our republic but also neighboring countries, including Iran,” Rahmon stated. He noted that currently only 5% of Tajikistan's hydropower potential is being utilized but plans are underway to significantly increase this figure in the future.
